Match report by Young Daniels striker Elliott Britton – Monday 8 December 2025

This was the game we’d been waiting for. The Stamford derby always brings entertainment, and this one didn’t disappoint.

The game started fairly evenly, with both teams trying their luck at goal. Blackstones had a one-on-one kept out after a great double save from the Stamford keeper — their best chance of the half. Stamford probably had the majority of the chances before the break, with the Blackstones keeper forced into a few saves that weren’t always held cleanly, giving Stamford hope of nicking an opener.

The second half followed a similar pattern, although both sides went more direct as the press from each team shut down shorter play. Blackstones hit the bar and had two goals chalked off — one for handball and the other for offside. Stamford also created their fair share of chances, including a header from the centre of the box put just wide, a couple of last-ditch Blackstones blocks, and a penalty shout waved away by the referee.

Around the 70-minute mark, the Blackstones striker was given an early shower after a late tackle on a Stamford defender earned him a second yellow. Despite being down to ten men, Blackstones defended the final 20 minutes well and held on for what was ultimately a fair 0-0.

If anyone’s ever wondered what midweek football feels like, this was the perfect example: high intensity, good quality, strong tackles, and a lively crowd.
