Stamford under 13s to meet Baston in showpiece cup final at Posh

Stamford Under 13s are preparing for an ABAX appearance on Monday in the final of the PFA Cup.

The Young Daniels take on Baston in the showpiece being played on Peterborough United’s home ground.

Stamford have been goal hungry, with a remarkable 33,  in the games leading up to the final. They beat  Whittlesey Blue 5-1 in the semi-final' then saw off Crowland 6-0 in the last eight, Riverside Rovers 8-5 in a high scoring second round encounter  and Yaxley Black 15-0 in the first round.

However, Baston will provide a tough test. They sit top of the Peterborough Junior Alliance Under 13 Division One table with just one defeat and one draw this season. They have the better of Stamford in their league meetings with 5-2 and 5-1 wins.

Coach Ian Edwards said: “"The team have worked so hard over the last few seasons and achieved so much. Their hard work, determination, commitment and loyalty to their team has earned them this amazing opportunity to play in the PFA cup final at the ABAX stadium. I am immensely proud of them and what we have achieved. It has been a privilege to watch them develop into the team they have become."

The match is a 5pm kick off.

Stamford AFC U13's v Bourne Town Juniors

On a rainy and windswept morning at Uffington Road the Stamford AFC U13’s met Bourne Town Juniors to battle it out for a place in this year’s PFA U13’s Cup Final. Stamford started the brighter with a number of attacks in the opening minutes but a mixture of resolute defending and near misses meant that Stamford was left frustrated. With the opportunities coming think and fast for

Stamford the deadlock was finally broken by Harry Cameron for Stamford and after some great team play a seconded goal was added before half time by Charlie Willis.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first, with Bourne defending resolutely and mounting a number of counter attacks which were dealt with effectively by the Stamford defence. With Bourne pressing two more quick goals from Stamford again from Harry Cameron and Charlie Willis put the tie beyond doubt and in the final minutes Harry Cameron capped a great Captains performance with his hat trick.

Ian Edwards (Manager)was extremely pleased with the teams overall performance in which all of the squad participated in a great victory. The team really deserved this victory and also the chance to play in a Cup Final and it is a testament to their hard work and commitment after many years together in the PJAL’s top division.

The PFA Cup Final will be held vs. Baston at 5pm on Monday 15th

May at the Abax Stadium, London Road, Peterborough and all are welcome to attend.
