Stamford Academy News

Last week the U7 mix of young Daniels & AFC were invited up to the Home of the English Champions, Leicester City, to take part in a round robin mini tournament. They played 5 x15min games in a 6 aside format with LCFC entering two teams into the tournament at their indoor astro academy dome

Manager Ian Edwards said the players really enjoyed the opportunity and showed great attitude and commitment to the games, ‘I’m very encouraged by their development and progress and its always a bonus to win a few games in a very strong tournament’.

The half term has been and gone and again we had a great turn out of players from 6 - 13 yrs old joining in our Feb half term Fun & Advanced Coaching Days.  We had the pleasure of Rushden & Diamonds bringing their mix of U12/U11 team over to play Stamford’s Advanced Centre team.  The game was played with some superb shape, organisation and great skill levels from both teams.  AFC eventually running out 4-1 winners.

New College Stamford Football Academy News

Just before Christmas the lads made it through to the last 32 of the British College Premier Cup. We then hosted a Cat 1 Team in Tresham Academy in the 2nd week of January but unfortunately the lads went out 1-0 to a 90th minute penalty. However, after beating a Cat 1 team in the last round and taking another Cat 1 team to the last minute, this showed the progress & development of the 1st year of the scheme for School Yr 11 Leavers.

The scheme provides Full time football training, Btec education in level 2 & 3 Sport. In addition, fitness and conditioning, trips to games and visits from scouts, premier league refs, and various other sportsmen & sportswomen to offer advice and guidance to the lads.

The lads went into the festive break on the back of another great cup result. We hosted Moulton College Men’s 1st in a very tough game, as all the Category 1 teams now entered the cup. However, goals from Jordan Brown (pictured below as December player of the month) secured a 2-0 home win to progress into the last 32 of a tournament which had over 200 teams at the start of the competition. It was a hard fought team performance along with some outstanding goal keeping from Keenan Murphy.

Young Daniels & Advanced Football Centre NEWS
This week we are looking at the progress of the Under 18s at Stamford Afc, the team is managed by Paul Walker and also supported by Paul Giffen, there are a few lads that represent the Under 18s that are also apart of the Betc Educational Football Course at Stamford New College, that train full time and also undertake an educational course at the ground as well for 16+ payers
The past few weeks have seen some good displays and impressive results from the Under 18s, two weeks ago they visited S&L Corby in what was a physiqual game that Stamford had to show their desire to win their own individual battle as well as play some great football patterns within the game Stamford came away 2-1 winners with goals from (Joe Stephens & Lewis Saunders ), last week saw the under 18s travel to Rothwell and due to half term week Stamford were fielding a very young side, this game as two very evenly matched teams both having a few chances in the 1st half but the defences were on top and looking solid going into half time 0 - 0, this format continued for the first 20mins of the 2nd half, with 15mins to go Rothwell were applying more and more pressure and finally got the breakthrough, which looked like it may be the winner, however with a change of formation to try and find an equalizer Grant Tippett broke through Rothwell defence to slot past the advancing keeper in the 86th minute to earn Stamford a well earned draw 1-1, making it a good few weeks for the Stamford Under 18s
